About the Glen Ellyn Festival of the Arts...
Beneath the canopy of century-old oaks aside Lake Ellyn, the Glen Ellyn Lions will
once again
host the Annual Festival of the Arts, which for over a third of a century has
been held in late August in the Village of Glen Ellyn. Founded by the
Jaycees as a community service event, and one of the most respected and longest
running juried fine arts shows in the Midwest, the Glen Ellyn Festival of the
Arts has become a favorite of fine artists, a magnet to the community for
shoppers, and a key contributor to the attraction and quality of life in Glen
Ellyn.
In 2004, the Glen Ellyn Lions club stepped in to organize and manage this event to keep
it non-profit and independent. Last year, Community Bank -
Wheaton/Glen Ellyn stepped in to become a partner in its success and growth
as a charitable event. This year, the bar has been raised even further.
While the Festival of the Arts has remained one of the lowest
cost shows to produce due to its independence, it has never been possible to
mount without the generous help and cooperation of the businesses and art
patrons of Glen Ellyn and the surrounding communities. In addition to hosting
fine artists in all media, the Arts Fest has also presented each year a showcase
of the lively arts ranging from local students to seasoned professionals in
choral, big band, jazz, folk, classical, dance and theatre. A variety of
activities are also provided for children to challenge their abilities and
enhance their love of art, while allowing their parents the opportunity to
browse the artists’ booths. There is also opportunity for a variety of food
vendors so no one has to go hungry while on the Festival grounds.
The Glen Ellyn Lions are grateful to welcome back this year our partner in securing
the growth and continued longevity of the Glen Ellyn Festival of the Arts. By
securing the charitable mission of the Lions in this event and a devotion to the
arts only dreamed of in some communities, Community Bank - Wheaton/Glen
Ellyn has generously become our partner in realizing our plan to expand the
scope and quality of this event. The Lions have embarked on creating a business
plan to evolve this event into the preeminent Fine and Lively Arts Festival in
DuPage County.
